Close the door

Close the door

Close the door, I say,
Close the door.
Please.
Why, he asks me.
It hurts, I never say.
It reminds me.
That I’m alone.
That I’m always alone.
And I always will be.
And it hurts so much.
To watch them play.
And see them love.
But I smile.
I’m cold, I say.
I’m cold, close the door.
It’s letting a draught in.
And he does.
This cycle repeats.
This feeling lives within me.
I am still cold.
